What is "La Carpa"?
La Carpa (Spanish for “tent”) was a popular traveling theater form in Latin America and the U.S. Southwest during the 1920s and the 1930s. Performed in tent-like structures, it featured comedy, music, dance, magic, and more—similar to a variety show. It was beloved by working-class communities and helped launch the careers of many performers in the 1930s, influencing the Golden Era of Mexican Cinema.

Performers
- Please read the participation guidelines: Click here.
- All performers will receive a participation gift.
- Priority will be given to SRJC students.
- Alumni, faculty, staff, family, and the public will be able to participate as space allows.
- Open to any talent, encouraged to align with La Carpa theme
- Provide a short statement of how performance will adhere to La Carpa theme.
- One registration form per act - The primary contact person should fill out the form.
- This year, performers will need to submit a casting video of the act.
- Make sure your video is no longer than 2 minutes – you don’t have to perform the whole act.
- Make sure your video does not contain inappropriate language, images, or sounds.
- You can submit a link to a video already on YouTube, Vimeo, or any other social media platform.
- Deadline to Register EXTENDED: Friday, September 11, 2026, by 5 pm.
- If using music or other forms of media, required to be sent on the week before the event.
- Acts are limited to 3-4 minutes.
- Commit to participating the day of the event and during rehearsal, the day before the event.

- The show is free. Donations are encouraged and accepted to help pay for future events.
- Seating will be limited, first-come-first-serve.
- Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
- The audience is invited to dress up with La Carpa theme.
