Colibrí Award 2023-24

Laura Larque

This year's Colibrí award goes to history professor, Laura Larqué, honoring her retirement after 35 years of dedicated teaching and service. Laura has been an integral part of our community, providing countless workshops and lectures focusing on the history of Mexico and Latin America.

Laura is one of the founding members of the Latinx Faculty and Staff Association and of the Council for Racial Equity and Justice.

She has been recipient of multiple awards including the National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award, and the first Multicultural Educator Award at SRJC.  She helped establish the Latin American Studies Department, Ethnic Studies Department, and has been an integral part of the Hispanic Serving Institution Lanzamiento initiative.  More recently she has recognized during the Classified Senate Recognition Awards as the Outstanding Faculty Member for the respect and support she shows to classified staff and demonstrating strong teaching skills.

 

These are just a few of the many contributions professor Larqué has made during her career at SRJC.  Her commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and justice have made a lasting impact in our college community.

Furthermore, professor Larque is an individual who preserves culture and has demonstrated commitment and dedication to the betterment of our Latinx communities.
